Getting a DOT physical in Virginia
Every location listed here has at least one examiner on the FMCSA National Registry. That registration is the only thing that makes an exam valid. A clinic can be excellent and still be unable to issue your card if nobody on staff is certified, which is why this directory is built from the registry itself rather than from business listings.
The busiest markets in Virginia are Virginia Beach, Fredericksburg, Alexandria, Chesapeake and Henrico. Rural counties often have a single certified examiner, sometimes a nurse practitioner at a county health clinic, so book ahead if you are outside a metro area.
Bring photo ID, your CDL or permit, and a complete medication list. If you use a CPAP, bring the compliance download. If you are diabetic, bring a recent A1C. If you have had a cardiac event, bring the clearance letter. Missing paperwork is the number one reason a driver walks out with a short-term card or no card at all.
